For the news broadcaster ntv, we developed a completely modernized HbbTV app that offers viewers a new, user-friendly news experience on their TV.As the responsible designer, I was involved from the initial research phase all the way to final live testing. One particular challenge was that a television is not a traditional reading medium, so we created an innovative concept to ensure that articles remain comfortable to read even on a TV screen. The result: a fresh, intuitive design that perfectly combines information and usability.
On the startpage of the ntv app, quick access to information is the primary focus. Users can see all relevant content at a glance - articles, videos, and breaking news. The navigation remains visible at all times to ensure intuitive and clear usability, whether users are browsing or simply checking the latest updates
When users select an article, it opens in a lightbox view where the text can be read comfortably. Thanks to high contrast and an optimized text width, excellent readability is ensured even on a TV screen - a key element for delivering a pleasant user experience on large displays.
The player is intentionally designed with a minimalist approach to keep the focus entirely on the content. It can be opened either directly from an overview page or from within an article - ensuring a seamless and intuitive user experience.
